salary range:

L3 Systems Engineer | Maritime Critical Infrastructure | Port Melbourne

Our client is a leading maritime transport company that operates one of the Australia’s essential transport links. They are classified as critical infrastructure, meaning it’s an environment where the work truly matters.

This role comes with a change of scenery that’s hard to find in your typical IT job – you’ll be based portside, and working aboard vessels, working within an operation that keeps essential goods moving across the country.

The Role

This is a broad, hands-on L3 position covering the full infrastructure remit. Networking, virtualisation, cybersecurity, BAU support, and project work. No two days are the same. The team is small, which means real ownership and real variety and not just a narrow lane with a ticket queue.

Around 400 staff across multiple sites rely on this team. You’ll need to be self-managing and capable of working autonomously, but it’s a genuinely supportive environment where everyone pitches in.

The Tech

The organisation has invested heavily in its technology and works with some of the best vendors in the industry.

Cybersecurity carries real weight here given the organisation’s critical infrastructure classification.

What They Need

A well-rounded L3 engineer who’s comfortable across networking, infrastructure, and cybersecurity. Specifically:
  • Strong foundations in networking
  • Microsoft tech stack experience (365, Azure, Active Directory)
  • Virtualisation experience
  • Strong communicator with a genuine customer service mindset — this matters as much as the technical ability
  • Australian citizenship is essential, and you’ll need to be prepared to obtain NV1 clearance (the client will support this process once you’re onboarded)
PowerShell and SQL skills are a solid bonus and will be put to good use

Relevant certifications are highly regarded

The Details

Duration: 12 month contract with conversion to perm
Daily Rate: $600-$750 depending on experience
Location: Port Melbourne (Onsite)
