Lead Gen AI Engineer | Melbourne OR Sydney

We’re working with a global technology and business services organisation to find a Lead Gen AI Engineer. This is a senior technical role in which you’ll be shaping how AI gets built and deployed across major transformation programmes for some of Australia’s biggest organisations.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll own the full lifecycle of Generative AI solutions. That means leading architectural decisions, getting hands-on, and seeing things through to production. Day to day, you can expect to be across:

• Designing and optimising RAG pipelines and vector database management
• Building secure, scalable backend systems and API integrations
• Managing prompt engineering from design through evaluation and tuning
• Setting up MLOps workflows – model versioning, monitoring, drift detection
• Mentoring engineers and leading technical decisions across the team

What they’re looking for

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, with strong Python skills
• At least 2 years leading a technical team or complex engineering project
• Solid experience with LangChain or similar frameworks, and a good grasp of prompt engineering and model evaluation
• Hands-on cloud experience across GCP
• Familiarity with modern dev tooling — think Cursor, Windsurf — and comfort with CI/CD and automated testing
• AI/ML or cloud certifications are looked upon favourably.

Location: Melbourne OR Sydney
Salary: Up to $280,000 + super + bonus, depending upon experience
