An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Storage Infrastructure Specialist to join a high-profile national institution on a short 3 month engagement. Following major infrastructure upgrades, this role will focus on optimising a large-scale Dell PowerScale and Isilon environment to deliver peak performance, scalability, and operational efficiency.

Note: The role will be full time on site.

Key Responsibilities-

• Conduct a comprehensive technical audit of the current storage environment, identifying risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities.

• Develop clear architecture diagrams representing cluster configuration, storage tiering, and data services.

• Create detailed operational runbooks for system administration, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.

• Deliver capacity and growth forecasts with actionable recommendations for scalability and performance optimisation.

• Facilitate knowledge transfer sessions with ICT staff to ensure operational continuity and skill development.

Technical Scope-

• Review and fine-tune PowerScale/Isilon cluster configurations, including all-flash, archive, and legacy nodes.

• Optimise data services such as SmartPools, SnapshotIQ, SyncIQ, and tiering strategies.

• Analyse and resolve performance bottlenecks across metadata, I/O, and multi-protocol throughput (SMB/NFS).

• Recommend and document architectural improvements to enhance reliability, utilisation, and efficiency.

• Produce comprehensive documentation covering implementation and maintenance procedures.

Skills and Experience-

• Proven expertise with Dell PowerScale and Isilon (OneFS 8.x/9.x) in enterprise-scale environments.

• Deep understanding of scale-out NAS architecture, storage tiering, and data services.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex storage issues and optimise multi-protocol (SMB/NFS) systems.

• Strong technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills, translating complex insights into actionable outcomes.

• Knowledge of storage security, data protection, and lifecycle management best practices.

• Scripting skills (Python/Bash) for automation and data analysis are highly desirable.

Selection Criteria-

1. Proven experience in designing, administering, and optimising large-scale Dell PowerScale/Isilon storage environments for high-performance workloads.

2. Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into actionable recommendations.

3. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex storage issues across multi-protocol environments (SMB/NFS).

4. Comprehensive understanding of storage security, data protection, and lifecycle management principles.

5. (Desirable) Scripting skills in Python or Bash for automation and analysis.
